Energy Saving

As well as trying to save you money if you are a user of heating oil, another way to save money is to make simple steps to reduce your bills, insulate your home or move towards more energy efficient renewable heating solutions (as old boilers come to the end of their life, this is often a time for people to reconsider the options of heating their homes).

On this page you will find a variety of information sheets and possible options for the future that you may wish to consider, provided by other organisations, but we thought you may find them of interest. Advice and Information

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) provide advice and information on a wide range of energy saving topics. They aim to help people understand all about different forms of insulation, how to get the most out of the heating in their homes, as well as help understanding their energy bills.

Suffolk Energy Action

Suffolk Energy Action is a scheme put together by Suffolk County Council and all the seven District and Borough Councils in Suffolk. It is a new, trusted, energy saving scheme designed to help all Suffolk residents save money on their energy bills and encourage the reduction of carbon emissions. The scheme is a result of the successful award of a £5.6m Government grant to the councils.

Take control of rising energy bills

Energy bills have recently reached an all-time high. This impacts on everyone within our county, but particularly affects the elderly, the vulnerable, and those with low incomes.

Suffolk Energy Action will provide heavily discounted assessments on the energy performance of homes and identify potential improvements. These could cover up to 45 different energy efficiency measures, including wall, loft and floor insulation, new boilers, double glazing, and renewable energy systems. Some things you’ll be able to do yourself today such a draught proofing, others you’re going to need some help with, and it’s generally these measures that are the most effective at saving energy and reducing energy bills.

A primary focus for the scheme will be on homes that could benefit from solid wall insulation as 45%* of heat in a home will be escaping through the walls if they are not insulated. Insulating solid walls could save people up to and between £300 and £600 per year**.

Over the coming months, Suffolk Energy Action representatives will be raising awareness of the scheme in your local community by leafleting households and knocking on doors. Your local district, borough, town or parish Council are aware of this scheme. All representatives will carry appropriate identification badges, but if the public are in any way uncertain about their authenticity, they should contact the scheme’s free-phone number to verify on 0800 840 9090.
